Good golly miss Folly

With a Rove full of gear, boats on the roof, our undercover ninja shades, and a humor high, we took to the road, eastbound to Charleston for what would become our week-long best adventure ever.
When we arrived around dusk, we dropped stuff off at his big brothers condo (Thanks Jon) and made our way to the coast, Folly Beach to be exact. Folly beach is located on Folly Island, just outside of Charleston. It is the quintessential beach town...with extra charm.
This is how the Atlantic welcomed us...and my camera. Thank you Folly. Thank you.

This is how we reacted when we got there for sunset!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!! Flying Squirrel (Classic Adam move)

MORNING!! AAH...Back to the beach!

Homemade bran muffins (packed by the lovely Mrs. Fillman).. a huge cup of orange mango juice and two hot brews in tow, we ate breakfast ocean-side. We were attempting to paddle the intracoastal waterways that weave in and out of the tall grass just a little inland. It was a bit too windy. But we mapped it out. A great adventure lies ahead for spring...

Check out that PALM baby!

Sand formations...What is more impressive than natural art?!
Over time these gorgeous patterns form. They present themselves with no hesitation along coastlines...I love this natural gallery.

We played on the beach all morning.

Stay tuned: Up next is a recap of the West Ashley bike tour, Charleston stomp, and a paddling adventure through a cypress filled lake that blew our minds. ...Still blowing our minds. Not to mention the Pike County wind-down.

A Roving Adventure

Adam and I are taking a spontaneous adventure with tents and sleeping bags, kayaks, bikes, frisbees and dancing shoes. We are looping to Charleston for two nights, then down to George L. Smith State Park, possibly stopping in my old college town for a few hours and then heading up to big ole Pike County before we head home. It will be a week of fun and adventure! A much needed vacation...we are leaving all our worries behind.

PICTURES TO BE POSTED SOON!!!!!

Italy: where the photos come easy

Some nice photos from my trip to Italy. Landscapes, Ancient Monuments, Pure Italia. This one was taken outside of Sorrento.

Bikini Beach!

This was taken inside the Coliseum. There were so many people, moving, wandering through the huge crowd, kids crying, people taking pictures, and at the first glimpse inside, standing there so solid, strong, overlooking the venue, was the huge cross.

Here again is the Coliseum. Somehow there was a bird in flight captured in the picture. It doesn't look real.

Emerson

While browsing the internet, I found some amazing quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Many that I'd heard before, and some that were new to me and possibly to you as well.

AND While browsing Portugal, I found this picture. Currently my desktop.
Photo of the Day

"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."

"People do not seem to realize that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character."

"Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God's handwriting."

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children..to leave the world a better place...to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. That is to have succeeded.
"

Thanks Ralph. Words to live by.

It is a risk to love

I don't know how I find these cutesy little things, but I do because lovely people post them in just the right places, so that I see them at just the right time. Just when I need to hear it the most.

Due to an inevitable hiatus of dreading goodbye...Adam has joined the Air Force and his 2 year training will begin in May..I have been struggling, thinking, up and down, hopeful then sorrowful...faithful that what is meant to be will be. Yet struggling with the reality of this reality. I have not concluded a thing, and am restless with optional expectations.
There are many things that I am sure of!

Dear Adam,
Love, Sarah

But I am a little more inspired by these two things that I found on a very cute website (http://prettyworld.tumblr.com/) I will be borrowing from often.

And my favorite:

Irish Blessings

The best ways to live your life, how to be a good person--making a hard decision in the face of adversity, listening to the good in you; rather than listening to the bad for personal gain...etc. The root of our happiness inevitably comes from our own responsible decision making. aka doing the right thing. SO...Here's to you...a few blessing.

Irish, Scottish and Gaelic blessings and for a refreshment- a few Irish images from my Dublin and Drogheda experience in 2006.

May the blessing of light be on you - light without and light within.
May the blessed sunlight shine on you
like a great peat fire,
so that stranger and friend
may come and warm himself at it.
And may light shine out of the two eyes of you, like a candle set in the window of a house,
bidding the wanderer come in out of the storm.
And may the blessing of the rain be on you,
may it beat upon your Spirit and wash it fair and clean,
and leave there a shining pool where the blue of Heaven shines, and sometimes a star.
And may the blessing of the earth be on you, soft under your feet as you pass along the roads,
soft under you as you lie out on it, tired at the end of day;
and may it rest easy over you when, at last, you lie out under it.
May it rest so lightly over you that your soul may be out from under it quickly;
up and off and on its way to God.
And now may the Lord bless you, and bless you kindly. Amen.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields.

traditional gaelic blessing

The future is not set, there is no fate but what we make for ourselves.

50 in love

Vine on Vine

The curling tendrils of these vines make fantastic shapes, lines--a whimsical way to grow..constantly dancing around each other...a party for your focus.
And the virtual enhancement helps spice it up.
These photos were taken in my backyard--many vines stemming from one plant.

Green thumbing

So I have this new obsession with plants. all plants, any kind really. I especially love my Angel wing Begonia with the speckled leaves and rough edges...(just to the right of the blue candle) it is blossoming during dormancy! yess!! Compacta, I have lots-o-succulents. Sedum, Rainbow bush, a sexy fern that I got for xmas... (It's really hard to not water them everyday...I think of them as human) Here are some pics of my windowsill.
And the awesome window mantle that Adam made me :) It's a perfect space efficient shelf...we painted it with porch stain so it darkened the wood and it's waterproof.

More things have been added to this shelf since these pictures. Because the air is so dry during these cold winter months, I have a few small ceramic plates that are filled with rocks that I am constantly refilling with water...it helps to keep the air a little more humid...a better environment for plants with dry skin.

My air is clean and my thumb is green!

African Methodist Episcopal New Year

So here's the scoop on mine and Adam's New Year...an unforgettable one at that!!
We met up with some great college friends and reminisced for a while. Had hugs, laughs wine and cheese dip. Around 10:30 we decided to head back to where we came.
On the way, sitting at a red light, I looked out of my window and saw a huge mega church in Marietta and in a window of the church I saw these people dancing in a line, swaying their arms in the air in unison...Adam was driving and we both agreed that we should check this out...So we finally found a parking spot and walked in a little late, opened the doors to a HUGE sanctuary, to find that we were the ONLY white people in a room of about 4,000 black people who were on their feet, singing with a talented choir....a few eyes were on us as we took a seat in the very back pew...and started swaying. At midnight, we were hugging everybody around us, singing and clapping..

The preacher was from Trinidad. Very excited...wiping the sweat from his brow as he kept everyones attention, roaring the gospel and shouting his praise. There was so much energy in the room...it was an awesome experience.

I realized about 10 minutes ago that the church was called Turner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church...they have a website. I had to look it up just to make sure that it really does exist...and that it really did happen! We counted down from 59 to 5..4...3...2...1... HAPPY NEW YEAR with 4,000 Black Evangelists!!!!!!

(a side note) When we first walked in, there was a very talented black woman belting out hymns...her name!!!!! Sheri Moffett.

Can I get an AMEN?!?!!
